New MATEFL/ACE teaching internship

The Master’s in Teaching English as a Foreign Language Program (MA TEFL) and the Acopian Center for the Environment (ACE) are pleased to offer a new Teaching Internship for continuing MA TEFL students. The Internship is offered once a year in the fall semester and takes place in Batumi, Georgia.

Internship details

  • 2-3 weeks in the fall semester – exact dates to be announced
  • Teach in Batumi, Georgia
  • Selected applicants will teach a course in English at a school in Batumi
  • Course title: Study of Raptors – Curriculum for Batumi Raptor Count Education 2012
  • Open to two MA TEFL students who are working on their capstone projects
  • Selected students must enroll in 2 credits of TE 390 Independent Study + 2 credits of TE 391 Continuing Enrollment. MA TEFL supervision will be defined on a case-by-case basis by MA TEFL faculty
  • Housing and transportation to and from Batumi all paid for by BRC (Batumi Raptor Count Project)
  • Selected interns are accompanied by an AUA ACE researcher

Selection criteria

  • Students must be finished with all MA TEFL coursework and enrolled in two credits of TE 391 MA Capstone Preparation Continuing Enrollment
  • Students must take a written test administered by the Acopian Center – the test will serve to assess the applicants’ level of interest in the Batumi Internship, as well as readiness to teach the content of the course (prior knowledge of environmental issues concerning birds in general and raptors in particular is an advantage.)

To apply

  1. Download the application form from the ACE website: http://www.batumiraptorcount.org/projects/student-trainings/student-training-program-application and complete all fields
  2. Visit the ACE to take the selection test
  3. Inform the MA TEFL Chair, Dr. Catherine Buon ([email protected]), and the ACE Director, Dr. Karen Aghababyan ([email protected]), of your intention to participate in the internship

Post selection steps

  1. Enroll in 2 credits of TE 391 and 2 credits of TE 390 in the fall semester
  2. Inform the MA TEFL Chair, Dr. Catherine Buon, of your selection
